Gulf oil spill's impact on seafood industry

As I watched the news of the oil rig explosion in the Gulf, my heart went out to those families that were missing loved ones and grieving their losses.
Toward the end of the story, a short clip of BP denying any leakage of oil was shown. Since, I have been anxiously awaiting the inevitable admission that the oil had finally reached the surface and that there was no way to shut the leak off at its sources. I am angered that the oil companies stalled and denied the disaster while all the time knowing what was looming for the Gulf of Mexico.
How can this be? Have the engineers of these rigs overlooked the possibility of this scenario? What will this mean for the Gulf fishing industries and all those relying on the bounty of this valuable natural resource? And in the end, will BP be held accountable, not only financially, but morally?
