Friend of the Sea is the only international certification scheme which certifies with the same logo products from both sustainable fisheries and sustainable aquaculture. Member Associate of FAO, Friend of the Sea is the only scheme compliant with FAO Guidelines. Friend of the Sea strictest criteria comply with FAO minimum requirements for certification and are audited by independent international certification bodies. Several retail chains worldwide have joined Friend of the Sea, such as Carrefour, Coop Italia, Eroski, Manor, as well as some main aquaculture and seafood producers.
Friend of the Sea assesses fisheries referring to available official stock assessments and scientific data.
