January 11, 2008 - SFB Staff — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) on Wednesday released a nutrition-information poster for 21 popular varieties of cooked seafood.

The poster, which can be downloaded in various sizes at www.cfsam.fda.gov/~dms/nutrinfo.html, is designed for retail operators to display in store. Species featured include catfish, cod, lobster, pollock, salmon, shrimp, tilapia and tuna. The posters detail each species’ nutritional content, including calories, fat, sodium, protein, vitamins and iron.

Posters are also available for the most frequently consumed raw fruits and vegetables.

“FDA encourages consumers to use the posters to help plan healthy diets and learn about the important nutrients contained in fruits, vegetables and fish,” the agency said in a press release. “Federal dietary guidelines recommend two to four servings of fruits and three to five servings of vegetables each day. In addition to protein, fish contributes polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats to the diet.”
