Webinar: Be a better communicator

The third and final installment in SeafoodSource’s series of communication-themed webinars and conferences will be held on Tuesday.

Titled “Communication 101: Making Seafood Easier to Digest,” Tuesday’s webinar is designed to provide seafood professionals with the tools they require to better communicate with their peers as well as with the media and the public. Everything from deploying e-newsletters to mastering social media to best practices for dealing with the trade and consumer press will be discussed.

Scheduled for 2 p.m. EST, the 90-minute webinar will feature four presentations followed by a question-and-answer session. The presenters are Ryan McKay, director of marketing and research for Tradex Foods in Victoria, British Columbia; Chuck Anderson, director of new business and retail for Sousa Seafood in Boston; Mary Smith, marketing manager for Santa Monica Seafood in Rancho Dominguez, Calif., and Steven Hedlund, editor of SeafoodSource, who will also moderate the discussion.

If you missed it, the first installment in the SeafoodSource series of communication-themed webinars and conferences — titled “Framing the Message about Seafood” and held last month — centered on the new website www.seafoodhealthfacts.org, which is designed to help consumers weigh the benefits of eating seafood against the risks and to weed out misinformation about fish. The second installment — titled “Stuck at 16: Persuading Americans to Eat More Fish” and held at the International Boston Seafood Show earlier this month — featured the results of a SeafoodSource-sponsored consumer survey on Americans’ finfish-purchasing behaviors at the retail level, which springboarded into a much larger discussion on educating consumers. A recording of the conference will be available on SeafoodSource soon.
