The Dutch Cooperative Fishery Organization has earned Friend of the Sea sustainability certification for sole, turbot, dab, cod and brill, according to a Friend of the Sea statement.
The certification covers the named species fished by the organization in the Dutch coastal waters.
According to Friend of the Sea, the organization’s fishery “uses only gillnets and trammel nets with no impact on the seabed.” The fishery also avoids spawning and nursing grounds, the statement read.
“Friend of the sea certification represents an important added value for our products, and we are proud to have obtained this important acknowledgment,” said Jaap Hennekeij, the organization’s chairman.
