Cephalopods caught by the Mauritanian national fleet are sold through the quasi-governmental corporation Société Mauritanienne de Commercialisation du Poisson, which has set a price of USD 11,900 per metric ton for 800- to 1,200-gram octopus, up 16 percent from last year.

17 February, 2012 - The USD 750,000 Pacific bluefin tuna sold on the first business day of 2012 at Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market represents the price of publicity rather than fish. A better indication of the market is the second-highest fish, which sold for JPY 25,000 per kilogram. The lower end of the range for fresh domestic bluefin was around JPY 20,000, with the average 20 percent up from 2011’s opening.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) in early February announced it is aiming for a 4.5 percent increase in tuna exports to 120,000 metric tons valued at USD 300 million, compared to 2009 totals valued at USD 13 million.

18 February, 2011 - A huge harvest of winter yellowtail in the Sea of Japan has brought prices down. The wholesale price at the end of January was JPY 15,000 to 16,000 per 8-kilogram fish, or around JPY 1,875 per kilogram, compared with JPY 3,000 last year. According to the Fisheries Research Institute, 130,774 fish weighing a total of 1063.1 metric tons were taken from 1 December to 31 January at Himi Port in Toyonaka Prefecture. This is the largest catch at the port since record-keeping began in fiscal year 1998.
