Aquasense, Gamma Seafood bring saltwater, farmed raised tilapia to U.S. market

Aquasense International Corporation, the U.S. holding company of the affiliate aquaculture company Aquasense Panama, signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Miami-based, Gamma Seafood Corporation, a division of the Alfa Gamma Group. The letter agreed to the marketing and distribution of the first farm-raised saltwater red tilapia products on the U.S. market.

Under the LOI, Aquasense Panama will supply the Alfa Gamma group 500 tons of ocean farmed tilapia to be distributed to U.S. retailers, including gourmet chefs and cruise ships, beginning as early as next year. The company plans to supply 6,000 annual tons by the end of the first project phase.

Product will consist of sustainably farmed raised red tilapia. Tilapia is grown in open-ocean and eco-friendly production systems, located in waters off the Pacific coast of the Republic of Panama.
