Cermaq Norway appoints new-to-industry COO

Farmed salmon and trout producer Cermaq has appointed a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its Norwegian operations.

Knut Ellekjær is new to the fish farming industry but has a wealth of industry experience from other food industry sectors. He has been production director of Stabburet, the largest pizza company in Norway, managing director of Sætre, a Nordic biscuit company, and is currently innovation director for the Norwegian snacks and confectionary business of Orkla.

“Knut will add valuable competence to Cermaq. Knut has background from the food industry of branded goods and has also comprehensive management experience as well as international experience. I’m confident that Knut and Cermaq is a good match,” said Geir Molvik, CEO of Cermaq.

“I’m very excited about the salmon farming industry. It’s a future oriented way of producing healthy food in a sustainable way, and I am eager to bring my experience to this sector,” said Ellekjær.

He will join Cermaq by 1 June at the latest, the company said.
