Faked drug records targeted in new Chinese aquaculture law

China’s key aquaculture and seafood exporting region has launched a series of penalties for incomplete or forged records of antibiotics used in fish farms.

The Guangdong Provincial Aquatic Products Quality Safety Supervision draft, open for public comment this month, provides for various levels of fines at different levels of government with the top fine of CNY 5,000 (USD 724, EUR 677) for producers found to have incomplete or faked records on either production or use of antibiotics.

The crackdown on forged records shines a light on how authorities in China are trying to get to grips with overuse of antibiotics in aquaculture.
