M&J’s Berthet joins GAA board of directors

Mike Berthet of UK seafood supplier M&J Seafood Ltd. has joined the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) board of directors.

Berthet, a qualified chef with 30-plus years of seafood experience, is director of fish and seafood for M&J, and represents the company on sustainability issues.

“Having worked in the fish and seafood foodservice industry in the UK for more than 30 years, I consider it a great privilege to be asked to join the GAA board,” said Berthet. “I look forward to helping with what ever input I can give, to further the GAA and its quest to bring all aquaculture into an ecological, ethical, sustainable and sound certifiable footing for the future benefit of all.”

“We are pleased that Mike is joining our board of directors as his commitment to sustainable aquaculture practices mirror those of GAA,” said GAA President Wally Stevens. “He is a well-recognized teacher of men and women in the foodservice sector, which is vitally important to GAA as it is chefs who have such an influential role with informing consumers on the benefits of eating seafood products coming from aquaculture.”

M&J Seafood, a member of Europe’s largest foodservice company, the Brakes Group, is the United Kingdom’s largest independent seafood supplier, offering a range of fresh and frozen seafood to more than 12,000 chefs nationwide. The company supplies restaurants, hotels, pubs, contract caterers, education and quick-service restaurants as well as fishmongers and other wholesalers.

There are 20 members of the GAA board of directors. Each member serves a two-year term.
