Makro endorses GAA’s BAP certification program

Makro Supermayorista, a Latin American wholesaler, joined the list of wholesalers, retailers and foodservice operators that endorse the Best Aquaculture Practices’ (BAP) third-party certification program.

Makro is the first Latin American wholesaler to back the program and is adopting BAP certification as part of a company-wide sustainability initiative. The company is working with its suppliers to ensure its farmed seafood is sourced from a BAP-certified facility.

Makro is based in Lima, Peru, and is a cash-and-carry wholesaler, selling food and non-food products to registered buyers, including small- and medium-sized retailers, caterers and institutional foodservice operators. The company offers farmed seafood species including tilapia, pangasius, trout, salmon and shrimp. The BAP logo will first appear on packaging for tilapia fillets.
