Marine Harvest Chile resigned to 100 percent mortality

Marine Harvest expects the severe algae bloom at its Chilean operations in Region X to result in the loss of all its fish at its three seawater sites: Punta Redonda, Huar Sur and Huar Norte.

Earlier this week, the salmon farming giant confirmed that a combined 1.2 million fish had already suffered mortality at these farms. In its latest update, Marine Harvest said that 2.7 million out of its total 2.9 million fish had now suffered mortality due to the algal bloom, and the remaining 200,000 fish are “most likely also lost.”

The average live weight of the salmon at these sites ranged from 1.5 kg to 2.5 kg.

All of its lost fish are covered by insurance.
