Salmon farmer's profits fall in Q3

Norway-based salmon farmer Marine Harvest achieved operational earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of NOK 710 million (EUR 76.9 million; USD 87.9 million) in the third-quarter of 2015, down from NOK 912 million (EUR 98.8 million; USD 113 million) in the corresponding period of 2014, according to the company’s latest trading update.

During Q3 2015, Marine Harvest’s salmon of Norwegian origin achieved an operational EBIT of NOK 10.10 (EUR 1.09; USD 1.25) per kg, while its salmon of Scottish, Canadian and Chilean origin reported operational EBIT of NOK 6.10 (EUR 0.66; USD 0.76), NOK 1.20 (EUR 0.13; USD 0.15) and NOK -6.50 (EUR -0.70; USD -0.81), respectively.

The total volume of salmon harvested by the group in the quarter was 106,000 metric tons (MT), including 59,000 MT from Norway, 17,000 MT from Scotland, 9,000 MT from Canada and 18,000 MT from Chile. Marine Harvest’s full Q3 2015 report will be released 28 October.
