Scottish Salmon Company posts record results

The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) recorded a 43 percent increase in revenues for the fourth-quarter of 2014, achieving GBP 30.8 million (EUR 42.3 million; USD 47.3 million) in the period.

For the full year, SSC’s revenues totaled GBP 125.9 million (EUR 172.8 million; USD 193.5 million), an increase of 53 percent on 2013. The company attributes its record results largely to increased export sales and improved efficiency. It also achieved its largest ever harvest in Q4 2014 with 7,373 metric tons (MT), an increase of almost 40 percent year-on-year.

In total, SSC harvested 30,183 MT of salmon during 2014.
“A great deal of hard work and commitment has been required to achieve our record results for 2014. Over the past year we have undertaken major developments in our business to ensure we have adopted a market-led focus and sought to grow our export business. Export sales now
account for 42 percent of our revenue and we now sell to customers in 23 countries, up from 17 only a year ago,” said Craig Anderson, SSC’s managing director.

SSC operates 60 sites — including marine farms, freshwater hatcheries, harvesting and processing facilities — in two distinct areas of operation in the Highlands and Islands, the Western Isles, and in Argyll & Bute.
