Soybeans to seafood: Meet GAA's newest hire

The Global Aquaculture Alliance has named Steven Hart as its new vice president of education and outreach, to start on June 29.

Hart comes to the position after serving as the executive director of the Soy Aquaculture Alliance (SAA), a group that develops new, domestic markets for U.S. soybeans through the advancement of U.S. aquaculture production. In addition to his involvement with the formation of the SAA from 2011 onward, Hart was also integral to the establishment of the Coalition of U.S. Seafood Production in 2013.

Within his new role, Hart will develop educational materials on aquaculture practices; investigate emerging issues affecting aquaculture and its stakeholders; work with GAA constituents to respond to emerging issues; expand activities with other aquaculture and seafood groups; and generating content for GAA’s communications vehicles.

It is with open arms and familiarity that the GAA welcomes Hart to its crew.

“We have had the pleasure of interacting with Steve for several years and have been impressed with his knowledge, leadership and passion for responsible aquaculture. He’s a rising star and a natural fit for GAA,” said GAA President George Chamberlain.

“As the GAA looks to increase both its advocacy and education outreach on all matters aquaculture, it is critical to start with a solid grasp of the issues and the work already underway to address those issues. Steve will add strength to the incredible leadership that George Chamberlain has provided to the aquaculture industry for many years in the areas of knowledge creation and applied research. We are delighted to be able to attract such a talented individual as Steve Hart to our ranks,” added GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens.

Hart himself – who has also worked as the director of aquaculture for Indiana Soybean Alliance from 2007 to 2011 – is pleased to join an organization with a powerful aquaculture track record.

“I am excited about this opportunity to come on board a premiere aquaculture organization like GAA,” concluded Hart.“I’ve always been impressed with GAA’s ability to address the critical needs of the aquaculture industry. As the global aquaculture industry continues to grow, GAA is going to be at the forefront, recognized as a global leader that provides solutions to overcome emerging issues. I am looking forward to being a part of this with George, Wally and the rest of the GAA team.”
