Alaska pollock fishery completes third RFM annual audit

The Alaska pollock fishery received the Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification by completing its third annual audit. The goal of the audit is to monitor changes since the previous assessment.

The Bering Sea Canyons were reviewed as part of an assessment done by Global Trust, the certifying body. The area was found to be science-based in accordance with international norms and met criteria laid out by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The audit assessment tracks the North Pacific Fishery Management Council and National Marine Fisheries Service research, assessment and management actions taken to date. The audit found actions to be based on the best available science and in line with Responsible Fisheries Management practices.
