Albion Fisheries, Western Canada’s largest seafood distributor, on Wednesday announced that it removed seven red-listed species from its product line.

The Vancouver-based company will no longer sell hake, New Zealand hoki, orange roughy, Atlantic halibut, Greenland halibut/turbot, monkfish, and skates and rays, joining previously removed red-listed species, including Chilean seabass, shark and bluefin tuna.

Albion works with SeaChoice, Ocean Wise and the Marine Stewardship Council to improve its sustainability policy.

“Albion is committed to the health of the ocean, and sustainability is a core value for us,” said Albion President John Milobar. “This decision today further strengthens our commitment to offering sustainable seafood to our customers by showing leadership and increasing accountability throughout the supply chain.”
