Chinese fish oil firm gets FoS certification

Chinese fish oil company Huatai Biopharm has earned sustainability certification from Friend of the Sea, the company said in a release.

“The growing international Omega-3 market expects companies to commit to sustainable sourcing of raw materials,” said Shujun Li, president of Huatai Biopharm. “Sustainability is a fundamental principle for Huatai. We are proud to be associated with Friend of the Sea for a more sustainable future.”

Friend of the Sea recently completed a chain of custody audit of the company, which sources fish oil from Preuvian anchovy stocks that area already approved by Friend of the Sea. The stocks are not overexploited, and the fishery is managed sustainably.

Friend of the Sea found a monitoring system in place which assured traceability of all raw materials.

“We really appreciate the increasing commitment of Chinese companies to sustainable sourcing,” said Friend of the Sea Director Paolo Bray.
