North Star, IncredibleFish forge new partnership with SFP

In the name of dedication to environmentally and socially responsible sourced seafood, North Star Seafood and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) have laid out a new partnership plan that will focus on seafood sustainability for North Star’s retail customers, cruise lines and chef-driven restaurants.

Comprehensive assessments will be conducted on the sustainability of all seafood sources, and improvements projects will be created as a means to enhance environmental performance, according to SFP.

“The ultimate goal is to ensure that all seafood for North Star and its wholesale division, IncredibleFish, originate from approved, certified sources or from fisheries and farms engaged in improvement projects,” SFP said.

North Star and its wholesale arm, IncredibleFish, are committed to the purchase and distribution of fresh seafood in a manner that coincides with maintaining healthy ocean and aquatic ecosystems; that enhances fishing and fish farming and secures marine seafood supplies, explained COO Josh Burman.

“That is a huge step forward for us as a company in developing a program that will ensure our commitment to enhancing the oceans and guaranteeing sustainable and responsible sourcing. As the first distributor in Florida to partner with such a great organization, we hope to lead the way in creating a new standard in the industry,” Burman said.

“SFP is looking forward to this collaboration with North Star and its other entities. Our work will focus on engagement of the food service sector in both Fishery and Aquaculture Improvement Projects,” added Katie Mihalik of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.
