Offshore wind work earns Scottish Fishermen’s Federation major accolades

The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) was recognized with a Scottish Green Energy Award for its work branching out into the offshore wind sector.

Nominated by Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd. along with joint-partner Skills Development Scotland (SDS), SFF was awarded in the ‘Contribution to Skills’ category for its active participation in the offshore wind sector in the Moray Firth. The federation was able to adapt support services originally developed for the oil and gas industry when dealing with offshore wind initiatives, applying them to the seafood industry and, in so doing, helping to enhance the upskilling and training of fishermen.

“Winning this award in conjunction with Skills Development Scotland is a tremendous achievement that reflects the ability of our fishing fleet to adapt their skills-base to meet the support requirements of the offshore energy sector,” said John Watt Operations Director/Industry Advisor for the SFF, in a prepared statement.

SFF received its award at an event at the Edinburgh International Conference Center on 1 December.
