Salmon farmer in Norway fighting ISA

A Norwegian salmon farmer is reporting workers had to kill thousands of fish to help prevent the spread of Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA).

Ellingsen Seafood reportedly had to cull 830,000 out of 1.4 million fish to stop the disease from spreading, according to an article produced by NRK.

The article quoted CEO Line Ellingsen as saying, “this is potentially a major loss of income for us.”

ISA is not harmful to humans but is deadly to salmon. An outbreak in Chilean salmon farms in 2007 led to devastation and years of hampered productivity before the disease was partially contained.
