Organizers of the SeaWeb Seafood Summit are calling for nominations for the 2016 Seafood Champion Awards.
The award winners will be announced at SeaWeb 2016, to be held 1-3 February 2016 in St. Julian’s, Malta. The event is co-produced by Diversified Communications, the parent company of SeafoodSource.
The awards will fall into four categories: Seafood Champion Award for Leadership, Seafood Champion Award for Innovation, Seafood Champion Award for Vision, and Seafood Champion Award for Advocacy.
“When you are working on a day-to-day basis, you are not aware of all the progress you might be making ... you just feel that your progress isn't fast enough, and you wish you could be doing more,” said Andrew Jackson, technical director of the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organization and winner of the 2015 Seafood Champion Award for Leadership. “It's very nice to see that there is a recognition of the fact that you have made some progress. It gives me the enthusiasm and drive to go on and achieve more in the future."
Bill DiMento, who received the 2015 Grand Champion Award for his work as High Liner Foods' corporate director of sustainability, said: "It's important to recognize leadership and the challenges and commitment that it takes to bring together a solution that works for everyone. This global collaboration, and this award, show others that this is the type of work that all can do, and all should do, to help drive seafood sustainability."
Nominations are encouraged on behalf of individuals, companies or organizations whose accomplishments demonstrate outstanding commitment to advancing seafood sustainability in the fishing, aquaculture, seafood supply and distribution, retail, restaurant and foodservice sectors, as well as conservation, science, academia and the media.
