SeaWeb partners with longtime collaborator for healthy oceans

In honor of its 20th Anniversary celebration, SeaWeb has decided to join forces with The Ocean Foundation in a new partnership forged for the sake of healthy oceans.

The longtime collaborators will combine their organizational strengths in the union, creating workable solutions to combat the serious threats facing today’s and tomorrow’s oceans all around the world.

"SeaWeb and The Ocean Foundation have a long history of collaboration," says Mark J. Spalding, President of The Ocean Foundation. "Our staff and board founded SeaWeb’s Marine Photobank, and we were partners in SeaWeb's ‘Too Precious to Wear’ coral conservation campaign. Over the last several years we have been both sponsors and huge fans of the Seafood Summit.”

"We see great opportunity through this partnership to continue to expand SeaWeb's programs and to help The Ocean Foundation pursue its goal of generating new ideas and solutions," added Ned Daly, SeaWeb Program Director. "The Ocean Foundation's fundraising and institutional strengths will provide a strong base to grow the Seafood Summit, the Seafood Champions Program, and our other initiatives for a healthy ocean."

The partnership took effect as of 17 November 2015, by way of an Organizational Partnership Agreement. Both partners believe that their new bond “will increase programmatic impact and administrative efficiency by combining services, resources, and programs.”

SeaWeb will be combined into the primary programmatic arm of The Ocean Foundation, providing substantive, strategic and communication expertise and services, according to the foundation. The Ocean Foundation, in turn, “will provide programmatic expertise in policy and law, while also providing management and administrative services, such as accounting and financial reporting; data processing; benefits administration and human resources; risk management and insurance; and information technology.”

The SeaWeb Seafood Summit – which is produced in partnership by SeaWeb and SeafoodSource parent company Diversified Communications – has become one of SeaWeb’s largest programs, and will once again focus on the sustainable seafood community when its doors open on 1-3 February 2016 in St. Julian's, Malta. Winners of the Seafood Champions Awards will be announced over the course of the event.
