SFP adds two fisheries experts to senior staff

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) has added two new senior staff members, Jose Parajua and Geoff Tingley, to expand its global work on improving fisheries performances worldwide.

Parajua and Tingley will lead supplier roundtables, which aim to make large-scale improvements across major seafood sectors.

Parajua has more than 25 years experience in marine resources and coastal communities development including work for FAO and the European Union. Parajua, based in Madrid, Spain, has worked in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors across Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. He will oversee fisheries improvement field projects and also oversee SFP’s tuna and reduction fisheries work, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Geoff Tingley, is based in New Zealand, joins SFP after serving as principal scientist at the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries where he led long-term research planning for deepwater fisheries. He previously worked at the UK Government fisheries institute (CEFAS). Tingley brings expertise in developing tactics for fisheries improvement as well as experience in scientific analysis of fisheries.

“SFP is in the midst of an expansion of its work that requires the kind of fisheries expertise that Jose and Geoff bring," said Doug Beveridge, SFP’s improvement director. “We’re very pleased to have them join us as we develop greater guidance for the seafood industry to lead fisheries improvement efforts around the world.”
