Spanish retailer strengthens commitment to sustainable sourcing with new partnership

The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) is joining forces with Spanish hypermarket chain Alcampo to improve the retailer’s systems in its 56 storefronts across the country.

The first step of the partnership will involve a pilot project focused on testing how SFP’s data management tools, FishSource and Metrics, fare in analyzing the fresh seafood supply chain. Both parties are enthusiastic about the possibilities the new partnership provides both organizations.

“We feel quite comfortable and confident that this is a solid partnership that will improve Alcampo’s commitment to responsible and ethical sourcing at the highest level,” Alcampo CSR Manager Yolanda Fernández Jiménez said in a prepared statement.

Alcampo is a part of the Auchan Retail group in Spain, and is the second largest hypermarket chain in the country.

"We are very excited to be partnering with Alcampo,” SFP Deputy Director of Buyer Engagement Pedro Ferreiro said. "This partnership will help SFP to learn and improve our systems, and this will be a key step forward to support other retailers globally in the engagement of complex fresh seafood supply chains in improving fisheries sustainability.”
