US Foods forges new partnership in the name of traceable, sustainable seafood

Illinois, U.S.A.-based US Foods has become the first North American foodservice partner for the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), the organization announced on 14 September.

A nationwide distributor serving independent and multi-unit restaurants, healthcare and hospitality entities as well as government and educational institutions, US Foods said it made the move because it is dedicated sustainability and traceability along its entire supply chain, including with seafood.

“US Foods is committed to improving the sustainability and traceability of the seafood supply chain and bringing our customers the highest quality products,” said Sylvia Wulf, senior vice president for the center of plate for US Foods, in a news release regarding the new SFP partnership. “Our alliance with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership will help ensure that we are well-informed and positioned to encourage sustainable sourcing and fishing practices of our exclusive brand seafood. This commitment is a journey of constant improvement, and this partnership helps to ensure we are on the right path.”

For its part in the alliance, SFP will help US Foods continue to “improve its sustainable seafood procurement efforts and work toward achieving its sustainability goals.”In return, SFP hopes to gain a better understanding of the U.S. foodservice sector.

“We’re excited to be working with US Foods and to have them join us in our mission to improve the sustainability of global seafood,” said SFP Director of Buyer Engagement Kathryn Novak. “The leverage they can bring to the table to encourage others to get on the path toward continuous improvement is very exciting.”
