Yooji's to carry only FoS-certified tuna

Swiss sushi restaurant chain Yooji’s Restaurants has announced it will only serve tuna from sources certified as sustainable by Friend of the Sea.

Yooji’s will now show the Friend of the Sea label on its menus, according to a statement from Friend of the Sea.

“Over the past few years we have come to realise how important sustainability is to the future of our business, and our customers too,” said Sarah Strub at Yooji’s. “Customers do ask questions about where our fish comes from. We can prove that it is fully traceable back to a Friend of the Sea approved fishery.”

In addition to traceability, Friend of the Sea notes the yellowfin tuna Yooji’s offers comes from stocks that are not overexploited and caught using traditional pole-and-line methods.

“(The) Friend of the Sea label is increasingly familiar in Switzerland and it can be found in several points of sale,” said Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea. “Friend of the Sea seal of approval on Yooji’s menu will further help Swiss consumers to make sustainable choices.”
