Alaska Symphony of Seafood solicits entries for 2017 contest

The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation has put out a call for entries for the 2017 Alaska Symphony of Seafood, an annual competition that awards prices for creativity and innovation in Alaskan-made value-added seafood products.

Entries and fees for the competition are due by 6 January, 2017, the nonprofit Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) announced in a press release. Those interested can apply through the AFDF’s website, http://www.afdf.org/symphony-of-seafood/.

The competition judges product entries in four categories: retail ,foodservice, “Beyond the Plate” and “Beyond the Egg.” All entries are individually evaluated for their packaging and presentation, overall eating experience, price and potential for commercial success by a panel of expert judges during a private judging session. Each category will have first-, second- and third-prize winners, and a grand prize winner and a “People’s Choice” winner will also be given prizes, which include an opportunity to display their winning products at Seafood Expo North America in Boston on 19 to 21 March, 2017.

Winners will also be featured in romotional events in Seattle, Juneau and Anchorage throughout February 2017, giving participating companies “the opportunity to introduce new value-added seafood products made from Alaska seafood and gain exposure with industry and culinary experts, seafood distributors, and national media,” the AFDF said.

The overall goal is to inspire innovative ways to use Alaska’s natural seafood resources, according to the AFDF.
