Frozen food brand Birds Eye U.K. has appointed a new marketing manager to take up the role after current marketing director Steve Chantry departs on 28 February 2017.
Effective from 1 March, Steve Challouma moves into the role following 20 years working in the Birds Eye business, where he started as a graduate trainee for Birds Eye Walls under the ownership of Unilever.
Challouma most recently held the position of category general manager across the Nomad Group fish portfolio – a role he took on after working across central marketing and brand teams within the business.
Birds Eye said Challouma will play a pivotal role in further driving forward Birds Eye’s new marketing strategy, which will see the brand move from a master brand approach to product-focused campaigns.
“I am thrilled to be taking on my new role at Birds Eye at such an exciting time for the business," Challouma said. "Having been with the business for two decades, I look forward to working closely with the various marketing and brand teams as we continue rolling out our ambitious business plan throughout 2017.”
Birds Eye U.K. & Ireland Managing Director Wayne Hudson said the company’s new marketing strategy had made “great progress” over the last few months.
“We are growing share again driven by a renewed focus on consumers and the introduction of dedicated campaigns for our key brand icons including fish fingers which saw the return of the Captain, Peas and Inspirations," Hudson said. "Steve’s appointment demonstrates the vast amount of talent within the organization and I’m delighted to be drawing on his years of experience and knowledge of the Birds Eye brand as we enter the next exciting phase of growth."
Challouma will work closely with Chantry ahead of his departure. Chantry is moving to Kraft Heinz UK & Ireland as chief marketing officer.
