McDonald’s brings its lobster roll back again

Major fast-casual restaurant chain McDonald’s will be bringing back its lobster roll offering for a limited time starting on 20 June in some choice U.S. locations.

More than 600 storefronts throughout the northeast U.S. will add the sandwich to their menus starting today, including those in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and the Albany, New York-region.

Last summer, the McDonald’s lobster roll returned after a hiatus that lasted longer than a decade. The lobster to be featured in this year’s sandwich – which is priced at USD 8.99 (EUR 7.92) and is approximately 290 calories – was sourced from Mazzetta Company, LLC, and is “the same quality lobster served at white-tablecloth restaurants on the East Coast,” according to Mazzetta’s Stephen Felsenthal.

Per a McDonald’s press release, the sandwich is “freshly prepared and made with 100 percent North Atlantic lobster meat lightly tossed with mayonnaise in a stainless steel bowl, layered on crisp leaf and shredded lettuce and served chilled on a home-style toasted roll.”

In 2015, the McDonald’s began serving its lobster rolls on 27 June, at USD 7.99 (EUR 7.03) per sandwich. SeafoodSource reported in detail on the sandwich’s reintroduction into the United States market (and also Canada's), which was met with fanfare its decade-long absence.
