New free-from brand launches into UK retail, foodservice

Ockery – a new free-from brand from seafood company Scandia Foods – has debuted into U.K. retail with a range of frozen fishcakes and will soon follow with products targeted at the foodservice channel.

Its retail offering comprises fishcakes made from cod, salmon, smoked haddock and crab, made from sustainably-sourced fish coated in a gluten-free crumb. Available in 2 x 90g, 4 x 60g and 6 x 30g pack sizes with prices ranging from GBP 1.99 (USD 2.47, EUR 2.33) to GBP 3.79 (USD 4.70, EUR 4.43), they are free from gluten, wheat, dairy, nuts and soya.

The packaging features the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label, the Made in Britain marque and Coeliac U.K.’s crossed grain symbol.

The brand highlighted that its recipes have a high protein content, with the cod fish cakes containing 65 percent fish.

“Ockery is all about simple, great tasting food that can be enjoyed by everyone – not just those following free-from diets,” said CEO Lisa West. “We know how difficult it can be catering separately for free-from members of the family, so we’ve worked hard to produce mainstream products that are affordable, taste great and are free-from too. That way the whole family can enjoy the same great food – saving time, money and freezer space.”

The fish cakes are also being launched into foodservice with the offering available in 20 x 90g, 50 x 60g and 40 x 30g sizes.

Ockery also has an ambient seafood range of gluten, wheat and dairy-free cockle and mussel products called Ocean Crown.
