Irish whelk and Chilean king crab are top sellers for Ai Chen, a Chinese seafood premium gift box vendor operating on Tmall, the country’s leading e-commerce retailer.
The whelk and crab are the most popular, according to staff in charge of Ai Chen’s customer hotline.
Meanwhile, the firm’s leadership appears to be busy sourcing product – photos on the firm’s website show executives posing with the Irish agricultural minister and Ireland’s ambassador to China.
A red roughy fish and 360 grams of green mussels – both from New Zealand – are also included in a CNY 1,688 (USD 245, EUR 231) gift box sold by the Yao Yi Shi brand and store -operated by Ai Chen Trading Co. in Shanghai.
Other species in the five-kilogram gift boxes include Russian Arctic shrimp and 600 grams of North Sea red crab.
