Smart Catch, the new seafood restaurant sustainability program from the likes of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, has awarded its first set of ratings to Seattle-area eateries.
Among those recognized was Duke’s Chowder House, which pulled in a 100 percent compliance rating for providing consumers with seafood that is in good standing with Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program and the NOAA Fisheries’ Federal Fish Stock Sustainability Index, and that is reliably sourced and prepared.
All restaurants who achieve 100 percent compliance under Smart Catch receive special notice on their member seal to be put on display in windows and on menus. Duke’s Chowder House was presented with its “100% Sustainable Seafood” seal at the close of July by Rebecca Camarda of Smart Catch.

Duke’s, which “has been dedicated to sustainable sourcing since the mid-eighties,” will be participating in Sustainable Seafood Week from 2-8 August. Throughout the week, Duke's diners “can enjoy delectable, sustainable seafood dishes like Salmon Cherries Everywhere, Tempting Thai Ginger Halibut and Walk The Plank Wild Alaska Salmon and Halibut,” at all six locations, restaurant representatives said.
