StarKist taps pro golfer as newest spokesperson

StarKist has named professional golfer Michelle Wie as the company’s newest spokesperson.

Wie will represent the StarKist Tuna Creations, Salmon Creations and Kid's Creations single-serve pouches alongside mascot Charlie the Tuna. StarKist pointed to Wie’s active lifestyle and healthy eating habits as some of the reasons behind her selection for the spokesperson role.

"As a professional athlete and champion on and off the golf course, Michelle lives a healthy and active lifestyle between training, tournaments and appearances," said Andy Mecs, Director of Marketing for StarKist Co. "Since she is constantly on the go, Michelle has been a loyal fan of our single-serve, flavored pouches to enjoy the taste and benefits of seafood anyplace at any time, making this partnership a natural fit."

For Wie, the convenience offered by StarKist creation products has made her a longtime fan: "With my gluten-free lifestyle, it is hard to find smart and convenient snacks that keep me full and satisfied while I am training and on tour," she said. "That's why I love StarKist Tuna and Salmon Creations – they fit into my busy lifestyle on the road or on the golf course. These single-serve pouches fuel me up with lean protein and Omega-3s and are delicious staples I always have with me, whether at the gym, traveling to tournaments or for a snack in my down time. Just open the pouch and enjoy… no draining required."

As the brand spokesperson for StarKist, Wie’s primary duty is to represent StarKist Creations products, including Tuna Creations flavors such as “Lemon Pepper,” “Sweet & Spicy,” “Hot Buffalo Style,” “Ranch” and “Hickory Smoked.” She will also be the face of the brand's newest lines including Salmon Creations in Lemon Dill and Mango Chipotle flavors, and Kid's Creations tuna pouches in two kid-approved varieties, “Bacon Ranch” and “Honey BBQ.”

Wie is slated to appear in StarKist multimedia campaigns, such as those to be featured in Eating Well and Better Homes & Gardens. She’ll also factor strongly into the brand’s social media campaigning. Moreover, Wie will “also be using her expertise to develop recipes and tips on behalf of the brand that fit with her active lifestyle, which consumers will see in the coming year,” said StarKist.
