The price of eel has been skyrocketing for three consecutive fishing terms due to bad catches with low yields of young eels. In response to the situation, the fisheries ministry held the first meeting to discuss countermeasures on Thursday.
The ministry intends to carry out a project within the next five years to raise adult eels from artificially incubated eggs on an industrial basis.
Employees of grilled eel restaurants are concerned about managing their businesses when the eel market is so unstable.
