Profita to lead La. seafood board

Louisiana's Lt. Governer Jay Dardenne has hired Karen Profita to be the new executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

Profita will take over the position permanently, after the last director, Ewell Smith, resigned in August.

"While Karen is a newcomer to the seafood industry, her background in marketing and strategic planning will serve us well as we strive to tell the story of Louisiana seafood as the freshest, tastiest and most abundant in the world," Lt. Governor Dardenne said. "And I think she's the right person to work with the board to address the budgetary challenges that lie ahead."

Profita has worked in marketing, nonprofit and fundraising for the past 20 years. She served for four years as CEO of the Capital Area United Way, and also held senior positions with Children's Miracle Network and Our Lady of the Lake Foundation.
