A new chairman has been chosen to help front the Sea Pact advisory council – on 29 June, the coalition of seafood industry leaders tapped Guy Dean, VP/CSO at Albion Fisheries Ltd, to take over for Logan Kock, Vice President of Strategic Purchasing & Responsible Sourcing at Santa Monica Seafoods, in the chairman role.
Dean is honored to have been chosen to assume the chairmen responsibilities for such an esteemed group of seafood distributors “who strive to advance environmentally sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices and provide the building blocks of a long term and sustainable seafood industry by financially contributing to fisheries and aquaculture improvement.”
“I’m honored to be elected to this role from my peers and people I respect in the industry, but more importantly, I’m grateful for the contribution and commitment Logan made in the formation of Sea Pact and am humbled to follow his leadership,” said Dean in a statement.
Dean and the rest of the Sea Pact cohort continue to pool their resources to promote fisheries and aquaculture improvements, and are looking to send out a fourth Request for Proposals (RFP) for fundable projects focusing on these realms in July.
“We are really thrilled with our upcoming 4th RFP as we will be concentrating our effort on current issues affecting our industry now and in the immediate future. We look forward to receiving proposals focused on supporting innovation in aquaculture, social responsibility in the seafood supply chain, and working towards new techniques and technologies for by catch reduction in wild capture fisheries, ” said Dean.
The founding members of Sea Pact include Albion Fisheries Ltd, Fortune Fish & Gourmet, Ipswich Shellfish Group, Santa Monica Seafood, Seacore Seafood and Seattle Fish Co. The coalition has since found other members in Stavis Seafood, JJ McDonnell, and A.C. Covert, companies that share a similar zest for seafood sustainability.
A graduate from UBC with a degree in Marine Zoology, Dean has been involved in the seafood industry for more than 25 years. He is a founder of Sea Pact and has worked with Albion Fisheries Ltd. for over nine years.
