Seacore Seafood management recognized

Ontario-based Seacore Seafoods has been named a 2011 winner of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies program.

The full line distributor, importer and custom seafood processor credits its “A Fresh Catch” corporate management philosophy for leading to the distinction. Seacore said it has been able to capitalize on its inward and outward logistics in order to make its consumer brand, OceanPrime, become available from coast to coast in Canada.

Since 2009, the company has been working on establishing its OceanPrime Sustainable Seafood Program. The program is geared toward sourcing sustainable seafood whenever possible and promoting and education consumers on the many sustainable seafood options.

Seacore is located in a 75,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that also serves its other companies, including OceanPrime, Fishermen’s Depot and Seafood Depot. The company’s offerings include Alaska crab legs, barramundi and European sea bass.

“By managing over 5,000 fresh and frozen items in inventory, Seacore has been able to outperform our competitors, create more jobs for our community, achieve sustainable growth and excel locally and across the country,” said the company in a statement.

Launched in 1993, the 50 Best Managed Companies program honors Canadian-owned and -operated companies with revenues greater than CAD 10 million. Very few seafood companies have ever received the award.
