The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday voted to uphold U.S. antidumping tariffs on Vietnamese pangasius, a catfish-like species marketed as basa, tra or swai.
All six commissioners ruled that revoking the tariffs would likely lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury to the domestic catfish industry. The tariffs are the result of an antidumping petition Mississippi-based Catfish Farmers of America filed against Vietnamese pangasius exporters in 2003.
The vote is the culmination of a “sunset review” that began in October. Under the process, the ITC is required every five years to determine whether lifting tariffs is likely to result in continuation or recurrence of dumping.
