US seafood industry veteran dies

Seafood industry veteran and founder of Ore-Cal Corporation, Bill Shinbane passed away recently.

Shinbane was a person who saw potential in innovation, products and people. He used that vision to turn a small fish wholesaler in Los Angeles into a processor with a truly global vision.

“More than five decades ago Bill saw aquaculture as the rest of us see it today; an essential part of the world’s seafood market. But his legacy can be found in more than just processing techniques, improved standards and keen foresight. In can be seen in the leadership of the entire Ore-Cal Corporation family,” said John Connelly, National Fisheries Institute president. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his son Mark and rest of the Shinbane family, as well as all of Ore-Cal. Bill will be missed.”
