One of Vietnam’s largest shrimp exporters is in the final stages of constructing a VND 1 trillion (USD 46.5 million) processing plant.

Minh Phu Seafood Joint Stock Co.’s (MPC) new plant, which will be able to process 40,000 metric tons of shrimp per year, is due to be up and running by April, according to Le Van Diep, the company’s deputy director. The company refers to the facility, located in Hau Giang province, as a “super plant.”

He said the plant will use the latest technology to cut fuel usage, material waste and production time, reducing costs.

MPC exported 1,662 metric tons of shrimp last year, up about 70 percent from 2009. The company is aiming for an export turnover of USD 420 million in 2011.
