08 August, 2012 - Mainstream Canada, has been issued a notice by Canadian authorities to depopulate its Millar Chanel site that has tested positive for the IHN (infectious hematopoietic necrosis) virus.

The company, a Cermaq subsidiary, first detected the virus in late July. The site will be depopulated immediately.

Millar Chanel is located north of Tofino and contains small fish of about 0.4 kg. The current value of the biomass is about CAD 4.5 million (USD 4.5 million, EUR 3.6 million). The financial impact will depend on any compensation from Mainstream’s insurance or the Canadian authorities that have required the depopulation.

Once the site is empty Mainstream Canada will have no other populated sites in the area.
