27 September, 2012 - A Flinders University researcher said using plant oil for tuna feed could overcome one of the industry’s environmental concerns.

Tuna farming uses large volumes of wild fish, which has attracted criticism for depleting stocks.

PhD student Andrew Scholefield is researching whether tuna can convert plant-based oils into omega 3 fats.

He said current plant-based feeds had quality issues.
