Pollock industry weathers low quotas

10 December, 2012 - Alaska pollock fishermen in the Bering Sea will get a 4 percent boost to their total allowable catch (TAC) in 2013, according to the latest numbers from the North Pacific Fishery Management Council.

The council has moved for a Bering Sea TAC of 1.247 million metric tons (MT), which is an increase of 3.92 percent over the 1.2 million MT TAC for 2012. The actual catch for 2012 is listed at 1.205 million MT.

The council also had numbers for the Gulf of Alaska, listed as “recommended TACs” for 2013, and the adopted 2012 TACs. According to the council, the 2012 TAC was 105,670 MT, and a recommended TAC of 110,272 for 2013, a 4.4 percent increase.
