15 February, 2013 - Total catch from Icelandic vessels for January of this year was 147,314 metric tons (MT), a 25 percent decrease compared to January 2012, according to Statistics Iceland.

Demersal species accounted for nearly 35,500 MT, of which cod accounted for 20,200 MT, haddock for 4,700 MT, redfish for 4,300 MT and saithe for 3,100 MT.

The pelagic catch was 109,900 MT, of which capelin accounted for 109,600 MT.

At constant prices, the volume of the catch decreased by 8 percent in January compared with the same time last year.
