IMM responds to Russian pollock MSC objections

21 March, 2013 - The company in charge of certifying the Russian Sea of Okhotsk Pollock fishery under the Marine Stewardship Council certification scheme has responded to objections lodged by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the At-sea Processors Association (APA).

Intertek Moody Marine’s (IMM) response to the objections were published on the MSC website this week, dismissing a wide range of the groups’ complaints against the fishery receiving MSC certification.

In response to objections that IMM did not follow MSC certification requirements, the certifier noted that all conditions and milestones have been drafted and reviewed internally with IMM to ensure that they both meet the requirements and are within the bounds of current practice for setting conditions by the conformity assessment body (CAB).

“IMM has completed over 70 fisheries certifications — more than any other CAB. It should be clear by now that IMM have significant experience setting conditions and milestones in keeping with MSC requirements. In setting conditions, it should be clear to WWF, other stakeholders, the client and management/scientific agencies that the objective of the conditions and milestones is to require the client to meet the outcome requirements defined by the deficient SG80 scoring issue,” stated the IMM response.
