La Voz de Galicia newspaper reported Sunday that Michelin star restaurant owner Toni Vicente is being held in police custody on suspicion of having breached the scallop ban.
The government of Galicia says all scallops harvested from the region's coasts are subject to checks for harmful toxins. All Galician scallops are monitored on a weekly basis for toxic compounds associated with amnesic shellfish poisoning. Scallops from some areas have been banned since 1995.
