Bering Sea pollock biomass rebounds

Alaska’s Bering Sea pollock fishery is in line for a quota increase in 2011. The National Marine Fisheries Service recently reported that the Bering Sea pollock biomass has more than doubled, jumping from about 4.6 million metric tons in 2010 to 9.6 million metric tons for 2011.

FDA: Seafood imports are safe

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says seafood imports pose “no imminent health hazard to American consumers” but adds that 5 to 7 percent of the farmed seafood samples it tests annually contain trace amounts of an unapproved substance, measured in parts per billion or trillion.

Málaga fishermen fight new EU law

EU proposes 2011 fishing quotas

The European Commission on Thursday released its proposed fishing quotas for 2011. Of the 93 stocks it manages, the EC recommended cutting the quotas for 64 stocks, increasing the quotas for six stocks and leaving the quotas for 23 stocks unchanged.

Norway seafood exports close in on 2009 total
