Over the past five years, the European Union has kept a scrupulous eye on Thailand’s fishing sector, which has struggled with illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and workers’ rights.
In April 2015, the EU issued Thailand a yellow card, reasoning that the country had not done enough to rectify its issues, essentially allocating 6 months for Thailand to “take the necessary corrective measures” or risk receiving a red card.
