Top 5 factors driving seafood sales in China

China Tourists.jpg3.) Chinese tourists a growing factor in region's seafood sales

Chinese travelers were frequent flyers in 2017 and are predicted to make 120 million trips overseas in 2018, according to estimates provided by the national tourism administration), compared to fifty million trips abroad in 2010.

While some of these trips may have been made by the same travelers, the trend is clear: Chinese are spending their newfound wealth on travel, and the figure will continue to grow. Key beneficiaries of this are favorite destinations like Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Receipts at seafood restaurants in these cities are already soaring on the back of Chinese tourist numbers. The case of Singapore’s Jumbo Seafood restaurant chain, which has been opening outlets in China, having made its name among Chinese tourists, is instructive. Vendors in Australia, the U.S. and Paris – favorite destinations of more seasoned Chinese tourists – also stand to benefit and should be targeting Chinese tourists over the long-term.
